At a home in Madison County

On private land in the unincorporated county, both county services are written to exclude dead animals: the Road Department's debris pickup lists them among items it will not pick up, and the garbage contractor will not accept one over 10 pounds. That is the clearest written exclusion in this site's research. Smaller animals under 10 pounds are not mentioned on the contractor's list either way.

Nothing on the county pages we reviewed covers an animal under a house, in a crawl space or in an attic. If the animal can be reached through an existing opening, an independent operator, where one covers your address, can remove it without cutting anything.

Garbage and burial in Madison County

The county's garbage contractor lists "Dead Animals over 10lbs" as not acceptable for household collection. The list does not say what happens to a smaller animal, so ask the contractor before putting one out.

In practice

The county's own pages exclude dead animals from road debris pickup and, over 10 pounds, from garbage collection. For anything over 10 pounds, or anything under the house, in a crawl space or an attic, call this site's number or send the form. For a small animal, check with the garbage contractor first.
